Michał Lew-Starowicz

Education and professional experience

A graduate of the First Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Warsaw (2004). In 2002 and 2003, he completed clinical rotations at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Heidelberg. From 2006 to 2010, he worked at the National Medical Specialty Clinic of the Family Development Society in Warsaw. From 2014 to 2019, he headed the Department of Treatment of Early Symptoms of Psychosis and Prevention of Relapses at the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw. In addition, from 2017 to 2019, he served as Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology. Currently, in addition to his work at the Lew-Starowicz Therapy Center, he serves as Head of the Psychiatry Clinic at the Medical Center for Postgraduate Education in Warsaw. He continues to maintain academic ties with the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology. He was the first person in Poland to obtain a certificate as a specialist in sexual medicine (FECSM) affiliated with the European Union of Medical Specialists. In 2008, he defended his doctoral dissertation on sexual disorders in hemodialysis patients. In 2015, he received his postdoctoral degree. In 2018, he was appointed professor at the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology, and in 2019, professor at the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education. He is the scientific editor of the monograph *Sexology* and the author and co-author of dozens of articles in scientific journals, as well as numerous scientific and popular science books.

Scope of activity

In clinical practice, she addresses mental and sexual health issues, guided by a holistic approach to therapy. She provides individual and couples (marital) psychotherapy. She provides medical care for individuals undergoing gender reassignment. 

He treats sexual dysfunctions: erectile dysfunction in men, ejaculatory disorders in men, desire disorders, orgasmic disorders, and vaginismus.

He is involved in research on the pathophysiology of sexual disorders, compulsive sexual disorders (“sex addiction”), and sexual dysfunction in chronic diseases. He has presented his work at numerous national and international conferences.

He is the author of dozens of scientific publications in the fields of sexology and psychiatry, and co-author of several books on sexology. He is also the translator of the Polish edition of “Compendium of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, and Psychosomatic Medicine.” Editor-in-chief of the biannual scientific journal “Przegląd seksuologiczny” (www.przeglad-seksuologiczny.pl)

He holds a certificate from the Vienna School of Clinical Research (2006). He holds CAE and ZMP language certificates. In his practice, he provides therapy to patients in English, German, and Russian.

In his free time, he enjoys traveling, skiing, triathlons, electric blues, and Latin American music.
